Empty

My son, Paul David, shared one of his poems with me this past weekend and said 'it would be cool to have a photo to go with it.' To that end, I took him to a local playground this evening at sunset and I tried to capture the mood of his poem. I made him promise me that the next time I take his photo,he shows me his contagious smile and writes a happy happy poem!! LOL

Empty

What can fill this heart of mine?

Can the steel be made to shine?

This hard stone of coldest metal;

Can it be made like a petal?

Who can free my soul from black?

Is religion all I lack?

Or does there linger something more?

What is missed inside my core?

Can a will of iron power

Burn away what shall devour?

Am I cursed, this pain to take?

Or is this hurt what I can shake?

Fill me up, I'm empty now.

Wipe the sweat that's on my brow.

Tired from the battle fought,

Can you give me what I sought?

Flesh and blood be my desire,

Though it's rare that I acquire.

Casting out my guilt and sin,

Filled I am 'til blank again.
