Ritual circle ciphers

These enigmatic letters appear beside a concentric circle and semi-realised 'daisy wheel' in Salisbury Cathedral - the "Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary". Featured is the ubiquitous letter 'W' but other letters as well. What do they mean? Well, 'AW' could be a Marian cipher meaning "Auspice Maria", Latin for 'under the protection of Mary'. If so, the 'E' might have a similar significance in Latin, in relation to the inverted W? The 16th century John Dee used a combination of A, E, C figures in one of his magical talismans c.1580.
