Aquesta és una foto d'un element del regim comunista feta amb una càmera sovietica, expropietat d'un oficial del exèrcit sovietic i pel·licula i revelador del bloc comunista (o els seus equivalents actuals).
Aquesta és la torre del iconic Palau de la Cultura i la Ciència (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Varsòvia. Soc conscient de la relació de amor-odi (o directament odi) de molts polonesos envers aquest bloc sovietic al centre de la ciutat. Es tot un símbol de la ciutat i del règim comunista, alhora. Però aquí està, i ara potser ja no el miren amb tant odi com fins 1989, i menys quan veieu tot el rerafons de gratacels molt mes alts i estilitzats de la pròspera Varsòvia democràtica.

Aquesta foto forma part de tot un viatge pel centre de Polònia, enfocat especialment en els més tragics moments del Holocaust i la II Guerra Mundial, que esclafà Polonia com pocs llocs, però que alhora contrasta amb l'increible renaixement del país fins al moment actual.

This is the tower of the iconic Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), in Warsaw. I am aware of the love-hate relationship (or outright hatred) that many Poles have towards this Soviet-bloc building in the city centre. It is a symbol of the city and the communist regime, at the same time. But here it is, and now it may not be looked at with as much hatred as it was before 1989, especially when you see the much taller and more stylized skyscrapers of the prosperous democratic Warsaw in the background.

This photo is part of a trip through central Poland, focused especially on the most tragic moments of the Holocaust and World War II, which devastated Poland like few places, but which at the same time contrasts with the incredible rebirth of the country up to the present day.
