Aquí la peça trencada / The detached pin

IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

Quan ho vegi be, re-calibraré l'obturador.

============================================

The spectacular Revolving Back Auto Graflex model 1906 is a gorgeous camera in "almost" perfect condition. Just a small detail, however, made it difficult to use. The pin that connects the movement of the reflex mirror (and therefore the release lever) to the shutter curtain was detached, and did not allow the camera to be used normally. Although it was possible to shoot, you had to first raise the mirror with the release lever, and then, already blind, move this conecting pin until the shutter curtain released itself. With that, composition and focus were a matter of chance.

This piece had to be repaired; at first he thought that screwing it would suffice, or maybe contact cement, but it soon became clear that the original was riveted or welded, and that a connection firm enough would be needed to withstand the blows of the trigger. Not a small camera!

Following advice from specialized forums, I bought silver soldering material and a butane torch, despite my lack of experience in this regard. After some frustrating starts, and some failed attempts, now the solder seems to hold up.

While assembling back the shutter mechanism, I happened to leave the curtain too far up (1 cm or less) from its ideal position, and now the highest opening of the shutter cannot be loaded, not the fastest speeds used. But for now I can take pictures perfectly with the rest of the speeds. When I see it right, I will re-calibrate the shutter.
