507008 Ellesmere Port 13th May 2022
Merseyrail's 507008 in Good Communications livery waits time at Ellesmere Port with 2Y28, the 17432 service to.....Ellesmere Port! All the service on the Wirral run back to the town they started from after circumnavigating the single track loop in the centre of Liverpool. This is the limit of 3rd rail on the line between Hooton and Warrington having been installed in 1994. Future expansion of the Merseyrail network will not be using 750dc 3rd rail as its now deemed too dangerous by the ORR. The 777 have been built so battery packs or overhead equipment can be fitted at minimal cost if required.
Thirty three Class 507's were built between September 1978 and October 1979 being constructed at BREL York as a follow on order from the Class 313 units. Amazingly 31 units are still in service but their days are numbered as replacement units, the Stadler Rail 777's are being delivered and on final test. 13th May 2022
