Statue Motif for Coat of Arms
As the story goes, the castle ruler fought against the Turks in the 1600s. The Turk general was captured, executed, and with head on a pike, a raven landed on his severed head and went about chewing the eye from the dead noggin. The lady of the caslte liked this story so much that she added the image to the family coat of arms (the defeat of the Turks was a true turning point in Europe's first --- but not last --- battle against Islamic try at supremecy over European Christianity. This coat of arms motif is found throughout the castle, even on the wallpaper (made of leather) in the main dining room.
