Over one hundred years since the existence of Fairies was thought to have been proved and then disproved once and for all, an image has emerged that has set the international news media afire.
An astonishing statement from the Department of the Environment states that three Fairies have been captured and handed over to Research Scientists at an undisclosed Laboratory in London, UK for scientific study.
We contacted the Fairy Investigation Society (FIS) but they say they have received no information about the Fairies and are most disappointed to have received no communication on this matter. Being the foremost authority on Fairy life in the UK, they add, they would have expected to have been consulted on any planned capture and suitable ways to accommodate Fairies in the unlikely event of any Fairies being found. As it is, the Society members, whilst feeling somewhat excited, remain extremely concerned that the best interests of the Fairies will not be Scientists’ first priority.
The care and control of the Fairies lies in the hands of Queenie Craufurd, pictured, who says she has been interested in Fairies since childhood when she herself recorded having met and played with Fairies. Sadly, as a young child, she failed then to obtain photographic evidence of her claims. Queenie says that early experience drove her to become a research scientist and she has always been optimistic about one day proving their existence to the world. It is a dream come true that she is now able to be doing so.
We understand the Fairies will be kept in controlled conditions and all manner of tests will be conducted. These will include blood tests, hair sampling and DNA testing, speech, language and comprehension studies, as well as conducting test flights within a secure facility.
There will be no more statements from the Laboratory until testing is complete. It is then anticipated that the Fairies will go on display in Museums around the world, completing a tour of all interested countries over a five year period.
The life span of a Fairy is unknown at present, but should any Fairy not survive this experience – the first of any kind with humans – there will of course be the opportunity for Post Mortem and precise study of the anatomy of the Fairy, which will greatly enhance our knowledge and understanding of the largely unseen and unknown Fairy World..
Protests are expected across the UK and beyond as concern for the Fairies mounts. Details of experiments and studies to be conducted are only expected to increase the anger of the general public and UK Police are cancelling all leave in order to be able to adequately manage the large numbers of people expected on the streets in the coming days.
The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, says, “I have always known Fairies exist and I am hugely excited at the prospect of the UK’s best minds being able to study these Fairies up close and personal. I shall be visiting the secure facility where they are being held on Monday to meet our visitors. I have no doubts at all that these Fairies will appreciate their time with our top Scientists and their opinion of us will be much enhanced by this ‘First Contact’.
Obviously, this is a great coup for the UK to be the first country ever to capture Fairies and secure them for research. We hope to learn much from them, and this knowledge will have far-reaching implications across many spheres, ranging from scientific research to tourism.”
Whilst this image is likely to cause immense concern amongst many people, the scientific community has reacted with positivity and determination. It will, they say, be no mean feat to commence communication with the fairies, who have not yet been observed to speak a word of English, or any other known language. However, they state they will proceed with the utmost consideration for the Fairies’ wellbeing and balancing that with the need to gain as much information as possible from these previously unseen creatures.
If and when any further images or information are released, we will, of course, publish an immediate update to this story. In the meantime, the world waits with bated breath.
I started thinking about a theme for this month’s project and the idea of the Cottingley Fairies popped into my head. I even started a piece with a lady holding a fairy. But then I thought about bringing it up to date. I thought about how different it would be nowadays if Fairies were seen by children, in their garden and made the mistake of telling their parents or other adults. Imagine if Fairies were captured! How would they be treated? As important ambassadors from another unknown world? Or specimens to be studied at any cost? This piece illustrates what I believe most likely!
