42810 at Derby

LMS 42810 is a Hughes 'Crab' reversing at what looks like the north end of Derby station - John's sole caption is 'Derby'.

Perhaps someone knows the purpose of the ventilated shed in the background?

The crew are leaning out of the cab together - no doubt they have seen John standing at the north end of the passenger platform with his camera. The cylinder drain cocks are open, and the headlamp code correctly identifies this as a light engine movement.

42810 was withdrawn on 14th December 1963 and cut up at Crewe a month later. The last shed was Birkenhead, before that Willesden, so it looks like if John took the photograph in 1963, the loco was some distance from its home.
