Update on Guero

UPDATE OF THE DAY! GUERO.

Once Guero returned from Colorado State University Hospital, he stayed inside the Sanctuary’s on-site hospital for approximately 7 days while we evaluated his medications to see if they were at appropriate levels to reduce his swelling and keep him comfortable. During those 7 days, Guero remained bright-eyed and interactive with staff – loving all of the special treatment and personal attention he was receiving.

He has begun roaring to the other Lions that are located near the Sanctuary’s hospital, which is a good sign that he remains active on a social level.

His mobility has improved to some degree, and we are looking forward to seeing continued improvement over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

After his initial stay in the Sanctuary’s Hospital, Guero was moved to a special outdoor enclosure so he could not only enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, but also be next to other lions. He is now staying inside a large introduction enclosure that is adjacent to the habitat with many of the other Mexican Lions such as Zeuss, Orion, Gigi, Xinna, and even Julietta from Uruguay.

Guero has only been in this new setting for two days, but already seems much happier to be near other lions and to enjoy the natural elements. We will continue to spoil him on a daily basis and keep monitoring his improvements. We hope to have many more positive updates in the future... and we want to thank each and every person that contributed to his rescue!
