Susruta, universally and rightly acclaimed to be the greatest of surgeons his times was also the father of modern plastic surgery. Through his skilful work of excellence and the compilation of the monumental text 'Susruta Samhita' he set highest standards in ethics, theory and practice of surgery and left behind such worth legacies as have served as beacon lights for the posterity and which for countless persons in India and abroad have provided inspiration. Sage Agastya carrried the traditions of Ayurvedic lore southwards beyond the Vindhyas. In the Buhistic period, the highly learned and mighty intellectual, Nagarjuna, who was at once a great chemist, philosopher and evangelist, adorned the traditional form of Ayurveda by his matchless brilliance. Thereafter the comparatively recent era of Ayurveda began.
