Pumping Station
South of the internment camp, we turned off the road and drove the levees looking for birds. We were too early for the migration and it was blistering hot. The thermometer in the car read 117F at the highest, but never dropped below 105 on the levees.
We stopped briefly at this pumping station so I could get a shot of the birds that were shoulder to shoulder on all the railings. Naturally, as soon as I stepped out most flew off.
This and other pumping stations are used to regulate the water levels and usage in the associated refuge lands under cultivation. The crops are shared among the farmers and migrating birds on this flyway.
