Designed by engineering prodigy Mikhail Shastin and his design bureu the Avtomat Shastin model 1991 was the most advanced rifle Russia has ever produced.
Design
- Utilises a balancing system which virtually eliminated felt recoil and muzzle rise.
- Composite grip hand guard and folding stock which is more durable than wooden furniture of past rifles.
- Modern rear mounted aperture sight which are faster to train than a traditional open rifle sight.
- 30 round magazine with windows allowing the soldier to see how much ammunition is left in the magazine.
- Muzzle brake to further reduce recoil.
- Semi, full auto and three round burst capability.
- Can fire both 5.45x39mm and the larger 7.62x39mm rounds.
Performance
- fire rate of 1000 rounds per minute (3 round burst) 600 rpm (Full auto)
- Field tests revealed the weapon to be exeptionaly accurate in all fire modes and performance is consistent in adverse conditions.
