20111001k Saul Williams performing at Ordsprak - Uppsala International Poetry Festival at Reginateatern | Uppsala, Sweden
Horribly grainy little video screencaps! It was too dark to shoot photos. But hey, at least cameras were allowed in the venue... :q :x
So. I finally got to see Saul live. :D (Found him in 2007 thanks to the collab with Trent Reznor.) I don't think I'd attended a poetry reading before, either (not voluntarily anyway), and/because/so I don't understand much poetry. That includes Saul's poetry. :| Though I've got me an interpretation or two of "The inevitable rise and liberation of Niggy Tardust" because I spent time with the album. :) ("Spending time with albums" was a common activity in the olden days, before Spotify and musical ADHD.) I could still appreciate seeing teh Saul!! live & drowning in his 3495729425672569729567 creatively combined WOOOOOOOOOOORDS!!! I... should spend time with his books. #todolist
So, anyway, I didn't expect to get ANYONE'S poems at the festival, but most poems were surprisingly enjoyable, funny, and at least a bit comprehensible. :p The weirdest ones were by Saul and a Romanian chick. Hehe. Btw, Saul gets extra weirdpoints (& memory-points) for reciting his first 40000 poems in nearly complete DARKNESS!
Languages heard (and occasionally translated) from the stage that evening: English, Swedish, Romanian, Polish, Finnish, German, Italian... Think that's it... :B
PS. Saul actually performed at the Swedish Arvika festival on July 5, 2008. I don't remember whether I found out about that before or after it happened... %P but I was busy with a Bruce gig that day. :o However! In 2009 I was on the train to Arvika to see Nine Inch Fucking Nails!!!!!!! ... and the random guy next to me was headed there too. He liked Nine Inch Nails! And he had seen Saul the previous year and said that he was the best act of the whole festival, IIRC. :)
An important message from Saul, sent out in 2008. :D
