Das Rathaus der Stadt Görlitz wurde im Jahr 1369 durch eine Urkunde erstmals als Rathaus belegt. Es besteht aus mehreren zusammenhängenden Bauten am Untermarkt 6–8 und ist heute Sitz mehrerer Ämter.
Der Rathausturm wurde Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts aufgestockt, 1524 bekam er eine Uhr mit zwei Zifferblättern, die 1584 von Bartholomäus Scultetus zu einer zwölfstündigen (vorher 24 stündig)umgebaut wurde. Ebenfalls verband dieser die normale Tageszeituhr mit der darüber befindlichen Mondphasenuhr.
1538 wurde die noch heute bestehende Verkündungskanzel neben der Rathaustreppe angebracht. 1591 wurde diese mit dem Standbild der Justitia ergänzt als Zeichen der hohen Gerichtsbarkeit des Rates. Das Wappenrelief des Königs Matthias von Ungarn und Böhmen weist auf die Landeszugehörigkeit der Oberlausitz hin.
Der 1903 im Stil der Neorenaissance fertiggestellte Erweiterungsbau ist mit den Wappen der Mitgliedsstädte des Oberlausitzer Sechsstädtebundes geschmückt.
In the year 1369 the city hall of Görlitz was mentioned by a document for the first time . It consists of several contiguous buildings on “Untermarkt” 6-8 and is now the seat of several offices.
The town hall tower was increased at the beginning of the 16th century, in 1524 it got a clock with two dials, which was rebuilt in 1584 by Bartholomäus Scultetus to a twelve-hour (previously 24 hours). He connected the normal time clock with the moon phase clock located above.
1538, the still existing pulpit was installed next to the town hall stairs. In 1591 this was supplemented with the statue of Justitia as a sign of the high jurisdiction of the Council. The coat of arms relief of King Matthias of Hungary and Bohemia indicates the national affiliation of Upper Lusatia.
Completed in neo-renaissance style in 1903, the extension is adorned with the coats of arms of the member towns of the Upper-Lusatian Six-Towns Association.
