The façade of the San Michele church was originally designed in the 13th century. The sculptures and inlays on the façade are characteristic of 13th century architectural beauty. It was later added to, rebuilt and preserved in the 19th century, in order to maintain the artistic beauty of the building as a remembrance of the charming artwork of the 13th century.
At the top, a large marble statue depicts the Archangel Michael defeating the dragon.
Legend says that on bright days you can see a green sparkle gleaming on the statue, which some believe may be an emerald nestled somewhere in the statue, but the stone has never been found.
