Scene from the Khon Classical Thai Mask Dance show
Part of the admission price to the Grand Palace included the Thai Classical Mask Dance - Khon show at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theater (this was a mouthful!). We decided to check it out - good choice. We took a shuttle bus to get there. The theater was great - comfortable seats, good view of the stage - and it was air conditioned! That was a bonus after melting at the Grand Palace. The show was actually very good. The plot was flashed above the stage but I can't remember it now; I think it involved a pauper, standoffish queen, wooing, courting and sparking, some underwater stuff, and then a big battle scene. After the show the ladies were able to pose with the main characters. It was at this point that we noticed we were on our own to get back. No worries. We walked to a nearby market called Thieves Market; that didn't last long since the heat index was about 115 degrees and the humidity was so thick. Time for AC and cold beer so we found a tuk tuk to take us back on another wild ride.
