Fall scenery along the Blue Ridge Parkway
This was a comedy of errors that turned out alright. My brother lives near Asheville, NC, which is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I read about a short trail in the Graveyards Fields area of the Parkway - it went to two waterfalls that sounded interesting. We are both experienced hikers so what happened boggles my mind.
We got to the trail head and just took off - neither of us bothered to bring the guidebook with us or check out the sign at the trail head. We kept walking and walking; I assumed my brother knew the way. After walking a bit I asked if this was the right way; he said he hadn't been here in years. He thought I knew the way. Compounding the mess was that he had a bum knee and it was hurting him.
We wanted to go to the upper falls first but missed it; we turned around and went to the lower falls - that was impressive. After that we headed back to the car - we checked the trail guide and learned we were about three minutes away from the upper falls when we turned around. Bummer!
On the plus side, we took my wife's dog Bella with us and she (Bella) had a grand old time. That dog was born to explore and ramble through the woods - just like me!! Unfortunately she was coated with mud and I caught hell for that. What a day!
I took these photos in October 2015.
