Psephenus herricki (Water Penny Beetle)

Water pennies are commonly found on and under rocks where they graze on algae. They ultimately metamorphose into tiny, semi-terrestrial beetles. Water pennies generally inhabit clean, clear streams and can be a good indicator of stream health.
