The Basilica of Birnau is a rococo-style church built between 1747 and 1750 by the Austrian architect Peter Thumb. Birnau church is one of the most beautiful examples of rococo style in Germany. The frescoed ceiling, dedicated to the life of the Virgin Mary and the rich stucco are the work of painter Gottfried Bernhard Göz, from Moravia.
