First-winter in front of St Michael's Mount, Cornwall, viewed from the quay at Newlyn. Ross's Gulls are high Arctic birds that occur extremely rarely in Britain and are highly valued by birders when they do turn up. This delightful small gull was well attended by a very happy crowd all of whom had endured a long tense wait when the bird wasn't present at first light.
