Deutsches Haus Front Facade (Now Greater Macedonia Baptist Church)--Detroit MI

Engaged Ionic columns flank the west facade of the Deutsches Haus, a social hall built as a meeting place for the city's many German-American societies. It later became speakeasy during Prohibition. According to contemporary news reports, one raid netted the mayor of Detroit, a congressman and the county sheriff. Today, the building has a more upright pedigree as a Baptist church.
