Number 37. Not number 53. :-D And it's not a '53 model, either. The split rear window in the back indicates that's it's even older, as the last year of the split-window Bugs was 1952.
Sadly, I don't know the exact year.
The split rear window was replaced by a single-pane oval rear window when Volkswagen designers decided that the central pillar of the original rear window was an impediment to visibility and thus not very safe. So, given all that, it's ironic that split-window Volkswagens are collector's items.
I don't know if this Beetle was ever actually raced. :-D
