Silver Three-Door Audi A3 in Tours

Yes, we have the A3 in Audi's North American lineup. But we don't have the three-door (or two-door, if you don't count the hatch) model, which Audi of America chose not to send to the New World because Audi decided that Americans and Canadians view a luxury compact hatchback as a contradiction in terms.

And quite frankly, so do I. The three-door A3 is nice enough, and it has the same generous amenities as other A3 models, but the fact that it's a hatchback makes me see it as an overpriced Volkswagen Golf. And given that the only Golfs available in the New World are GTIs and Rs, the Golf is too overpriced in North America already.

I photographed this car on Boulevard Beranger in Tours, France.
