West Essex Memorial Day Parade, 2019 - Grand Marshal and '62 Thunderbird
Gerard Sorell, a World War II veteran and a resident of nearby North Cadwell, was the grand marshal for the 2019 West Essex Memorial Day Parade. He's an Austrian immigrant who fled that country after Hitler annexed it in 1938 but went back there to fight in the European theater for his adopted country. He was honored for his service at the 2018 Veterans' Day ceremony in nearby Montclair with a belated Bronze Star.
He's riding in a 1962 Ford Thunderbird owned by someone in town. Note that the word "marshal" is misspelled on the sign.
