I'm not sure what these folks in Bryant Park were up to, but it looked like they were shooting a local TV commercial for a department store or clothier. The lovely woman in the maroon pullover was clearly the model.
Fashion shoots are not uncommon in Manhattan, and I've seen many of them. Most of the fashion shoots I've seen are for still pictures for catalogs and the like. The boom mike and the video camera here are telltale signs that this was most likely for TV. And the woman was defnitely more lifelike than many of the models I've seen on the street.
