Volkswagen rarely shows it concept cars in North America (I never got to see the Chico, a nineties prototype concept for later VW micro-cars like the up!), so when it does, it's obviously very important.
The Budd-E concept van, an electric-motor, high-tech play on the old Microbus, is clearly an effort by Volkswagen to get behind the diesel scandal, and it proved to be an impressive display of all sorts of high technology. It has a continuous digital instrument cluster across the dashboard with information and entertainment access for all of the passengers, all operated by multi-touch or by voice command that can customize music choices or climate control for each occupant. The Budd-E debuted not in Frankfurt in September 2015 but at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which demonstrates how vital VW still considers the American market. But I suspect a lot of VW enthusiasts don't care about all the gadgets in this van. They just want to know when Volkswagen will offer a funky van in These States again. Come on, VW, you have such a product in other markets.
