The 18-story gothic-inspired Fisher Building designed by Charles Atwood of Burnham & Co. is distinguished by its richly detailed golden terra cotta façade with fantastical depictions of sea life that allude to the name of the developer, Lucius Fisher. The high percentage of glass on the facade, groundbreaking at the time, foreshadows the amount of glass we have come to expect on modern skyscrapers. Originally an office building in the active Dearborn Street corridor, the building underwent an extensive renovation in 2001 (including repair/replacement of 6,000 terra cotta pieces and 1,200 wood frame windows, as well as refurbished mosaic floor tiles and Carrara marble), and now offers elegant rental apartments and selected offices.
