Gelli print (monoprint), acrylic on Southern Belle Cotton-1
The prompt for this week's Macro Mondays is Textiles,Fabrics. Right up my street!! However, I am REALLY sick with a viral bug so I have NO imagination or energy! (Poor me!!)That said, I have dug out a lot of samples of fabrics I have made or used in my work and have decided that although these monoprints are interesting, I will not use them in my MM's submission so I'll show you here! Southern Belle is a sort of coarse cotton used as a printing base, in dollmaking etc. I have several Gelli Pads ( look them up if you are arty and don't know about them) They are REALLY fun! You smear acrylic paints on the Gelli then wipe, scrape, swirl ,block etc then drop a piece of good firm cotton or whatever on top . Smooth it with a brayer gently and then pull ONE print! SOMETIMES you can get a second print, called a Ghost Print because it is not very distinct. Acrylic Paint works splendidly and is pretty cheap. Lumière is a BLAST , metallic etc , but not as cheap. It makes fabulous effects though. These four shots are all VERY tiny sections of my monoprinted fabrics( because they were being auditioned for MMs!)
