The boats in the foreground are sat on a mud bank and attached to pontoons, awaiting the high tide. A boat can be seen moored in the channel behind, this is reportedly a riskier location due to the dangers of fallen trees being carried down the river, especially when the river is in flood, but has the advantage of not needing to wait for the tide. A huge concrete slab is dropped on the river bed to serve as an anchor point as a conventional anchor will not suffice to hold fast against the power of the river.The boats on the bank face the hazards of acts of vandalism instead! In the cliff behind can be seen the opening of Gloucester Hole.
