Entry #009 - Katniss, Opening Ceremonies
"I ordered 8 extra large and 4 small sequin applique flames from an online applique retailer that offered quick, 24 hour delivery. I found the black with red bottom “Ombre Cape,” and the black unitard, at a local halloween costume shop. I picked up a plain black headband, gold thread, a hot glue gun and glue sticks at a local craft store. I borrowed the black lace up boots from my Mom :) I already had gold eyeshadow and face bronzer.
I secured 2 small flames onto each side of my headband using the hot glue gun. For the cape, I decided on flames at the bottom that appear to be gradually climbing upwards – they go around the entire cape. 4 flames on the back and 4 flames up front (2 on each side). They were hand sewn with the gold thread, mostly by my girlfriend – partially by me. She ran out of time, so when I met her to pick up my cape, she gave me a quick bowling ally parking lot sewing lesson - literally - and I finished securing and sewing the flames myself. I realize that might be a disqualifier (the cape sewing help), but that’s okay.
I braided the end of my hair, and added some gold makeup and my Mockingjay pin as the final touch." --by Mahlet
