AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy
Through the Aspire Mentoring Academy, AT&T will provide 1 million hours of mentoring to students at risk of dropping out of high school. AT&T launched this initiative in October 2011 as the key community engagement program of AT&T Aspire, the company’s $350 million commitment focused on high school success leading to college and career readiness.
The program offers employees three ways to mentor, providing a wide range of options for the different skill-sets and time availability of AT&T’s workforce. Through job mentoring, employees give job and career advice; through skills mentoring, they provide academic and life skills coaching; and through “e-mentoring,” AT&T volunteers can virtually mentor students on critical math skills. "This volunteer opportunity enables me to guide a student who might not get one-on-one direction and it also makes me feel good that I am making a difference in a student's education, especially someone who needs my mentoring help,” said Delia Hernandez, an AT&T volunteer who will mentor a 14-year-old student in math this year.
