William Morris Printed Fabric: Cray

“Cray”, 1884 [3rd period] – This design for block-printing cotton and linen fabrics was hand-printed with 34 blocks at Merton Abbey. Often regarded as the most complex of Morris’ fabric patterns, it was inspired by a 17th century brocade Morris had studied at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
