Communication

On our trip in the North country we had a free day where we got to enjoy some hot springs and go horseback riding. Originally we were supposed to have a horse for every person on the trip, but because all the mares were pregnant we were given three horses, one of which was crazy. Two horses for twelve people meant there was some downtime before or after riding. The "cowboys" of the ranch had come in with the horses and were then sitting around waiting for us to finish riding. I had brought beanie babies with me for all the young children that we would encounter along the way. I gave one to this little boy, but he was extremely unhappy about it, as you can tell from the look on his face. Eventually he began to play with it, but not after staring at me like this for quite some time and crying a little. The snow is lightly covering his hat and the ground, and all the men were dressed in the traditional clothing of Mongolia. No communication occurred, but it was a beautiful moment of enjoying the chilly weather and a new culture.
