Egypt - Karnak Temple of Amun-Re
The Karnak Temple Complex is located near Luxor. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut ("The Most Selected of Places") and the main place of worship. It comprises temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings, and the Sacred Lake. Construction of temples started in the Middle Kingdom and continued through to Ptolemaic times. Thirty pharaohs contributed to the buildings, enabling it to reach a size, complexity, and diversity not seen elsewhere.
The sandstone for the Amun-Re temple, including all the columns, was transported from Gebel Silsila 100 miles south on the Nile river.
