Albania-Montenegro border

Crossing from Albania to Montenegro is rather unpredictable, and can take 45 minutes to one-and-a-half hours. Both countries were at this time official candidates to join EU.

I did not see any person directing traffic. There appeared to be two lines heading to the border agents. However, the left lane behind the blue Audi actually was a lane for cars coming from the left side and travelling in the opposite direction. Later on, a car from the left lane was able to negotiate across the right lane and went straight to the border agent along the empty space on the right side, ahead of everybody. I am sure there is a system in this madness, which I did not understand.

Aside from this, I have read that the Montenegro-Albania border is closely watched. Entrepreneurial smugglers were offering Asian and North African migrants a new route into the European Union, running from Greece through Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia to Croatia, a member state of the European Union.
