Showing off some jewelry

After pinching and biting Matt's hands for several minutes, this white-eyed vireo was released. It landed on a tree branch nearby, sporting its shiny new bling.

Later that morning, Matt and Jennifer would also band a cardinal and two pileated woodpeckers, bringing their haul to an impressive 15 birds on the first day of the 2018 summer bird-banding season. This was a terrific start, and a good omen for a banding season that lasts through mid-August.
