Eclipsing

A Mallard Drake beginning the eclipse or moult when they lose their breeding colours and go through a rather "tatty" period and once complete they are quite difficult to distinguish from the females.

 

Sorry to be a bit slow in commenting but Flynn (our Black Lab) had to have an operation yesterday and so have been a bit tied up. Thankfully he is recovering well. Normal service will be resumed shortly hopefully.
