20th century archeology in 'Malpais de la Rasca' in Tenerife - remnants of irrigation canals, used for irrigating the tomato plantations

 

In the mid-20th century (roughly between 1940 and 1970), the arid south of Tenerife was a major player in the export market. Despite the lack of rain, these channels were built to transport water to the coastal plains to grow tomatoes and bananas.
