Lawrence needed alot of water in their manufacturing processes.The Rock River provided them with that water and for many years they,along with the other waterfront manufacturers, gave that water back to the Rock in an allegedly questionable state.With more strict state and federal laws came new,expensive cleaning processes to treat waste water.This added expense,along with increased foreign competition,greatly affected the companies bottom line.
