Sports Break Greenwood SC - A Review

I had to make another trip to Greenwood SC this week and had been told this one of the better places to eat is the Sports Break. If you click on the picture above, you can see they claim to have the best meat and veggie lunch in town. Sounded good to me, although a sports bar is not normally a place I would expect to get good food. At least the parking lot was full, so there was hope.
I walked in, and sure enough this is for sure a lounge type place. Dark, no windows....and something I have come to not expect in Georgia, the smell of cigarettes. Fortunately no one was actually smoking or I probably would have passed on trying the food.
I grabbed a table and picked up a menu. This was looking better and better......they publish a daily menu.

The Sports Break Greenwood SC - What's The Verdict?
Of course, my standard "test country cooking meal" consists of fried chicken and collards, so I ordered that with squash casserole and field peas. This turned out to be a good choice.
The vegetables were very good, especially the squash. But no complaints with the collards or the field peas. The chicken was not too salty like some I have had lately, but it was very tasty. Still.....not the Blue Willow in Social Circle, but pretty good, although a bit dry for my taste. But, as anyone who likes fried chicken knows, it is easy to slightly over do it.
The service was good as well. I left there thinking my name was "Dear".
Who knows what the Sports Break is like after 5 pm, and I sort of doubt I will find out. But for lunch it is a very credible place to try if you can handle the lounge atmosphere.
It looks like I might be living in the Lake Greenwood area this spring, so it is great to start finding what Greenwood SC has to offer.
