Catherine McAuley at the age of 54 established a house to educate and nurse the sick and forgotten. She was ordered by the Bishop to turn her house over to the Sisters of Charity of Ireland or found an order. Woman were not allowed to be empowered without the control of a man back in those days of Dublin, Ireland. So she established an order of nuns, and her work has spread around the world to Mercy Hospitals in many communities that continue to serve humanity today.
