YouthBank (Romania)

Compiled by Andreia Moraru

YouthBank is a youth empowering program that is active in more than 20 countries. Its main focus is encouraging young people to get involved in their communities, offering them the right framework to voice their opinion and transform their ideas into reality. More than 400 young people get the chance each year to make a change and come up with solutions to the needs they identify in their communities. The YouthBank teams create and manage a fund (more than 50,000 euro) that is dedicated to youth initiatives, with up to 60 projects being funded each year. YouthBank allows young people to discover their potential and abilities, encouraging them to become active citizens in the European society.

Why did you get involved?

Ana Maria Costea

"Volunteering is like sculpting the interior clay. It all starts with the way we see the world. I picture the universe as a forest. Under the ground, rich pipes are entwining, looking for the thirsty root (the young generation). The pith (all that the program has to offer) is absorbed gradually – it goes up through the stalk, the tree grows and prepares to bring forth the corolla. Oxygen is produced this way (impacting the others around). This is the original type of volunteering: by shaping ourselves, we start an endless interior domino game that manages to build a “better world”."
