Snow Study Instruments
On the shelf is a loup (above "SEAR") used with the black snow crystal screen leaning against the back panel to identify snow crystals. Also visible are a weigh scale used to calculate snow density and to the right, a white (tube device) rain gauge. Pictured at centre is a SEAR collapsible ruler used to measure snow depth and snow layers within a snow study pit.
Meteorological data obtained is evaluated alongside snow characteristic data and interpreted by Parks Canada staff to produce daily avalanche forecasts and bulletins.
