double-ender
A pointy bow and a pointy stern are the hallmarks of these "double enders," as they were called. When the federal prohibition of fishing-vessel motorization ended with Alaska Statehood, these boats were mechanized, with a propeller-shaft being added alongside the stern skeg near the rudder.
The entire fleet of double-enders was retired as newer vessels were designed with engines incorporated into the design and within a decade, few of these girls could still be found on the fishing grounds.... and hence, the glorious era of sailing ships in Alaska came to a sudden end.
