Hoopoe
Upupa epops. Hoopoes are one of my favourite birds, but they are scarce migants to Britain. Their main breeding range is from southern Europe eastwards across Asia. Every year they are spring overshoot mrigrants to Britain and annual in Yorkshire. They are even scarcer in the autumn so this this bird at Collingham, West Yorkshire has been very popular with birdwatchers. It was quite tame and came pretty close to its crowd of admires, fortunately including myself.
