TICKHILL CASTLE, NOTTS_RP1_3545
Tickhill castle is 11C that was owned by King John with later work constructed by Eleanor of Aquitaine. Defended in Civil War by royalists, then captured and razed in 1648 to make it indefensible. It has one of the the oldest gatehouses in UK. The castle is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster which provides income to the Soverign (King Charles) and is only open on one day a year. View is through Norman gatehouse with view of motte beyond.
