a sign!

I so should have taken this sighting of a buzzard high up in a dead tree at the beginning of the trail as a sign and not walked down it a week ago today. But it was called the Woodland Trail with a promise of an overlook where we Might see ponies and I thought... Woodland would indicate a nice shady walk under thick full trees. Right? Wrong! The temps in the early morning were as cool as they would be all day (upper 80's). Out in the bright, HOT sun we trudged along. I tried to pretend I wasn't melting. I haven't done all that much walking since the hip replacement either. Hot sun and Mosquitos! I was pretty sure they had plans to carry me off. We had gone about a half a mile in these conditions when we met a bicyclist coming toward us so we asked how much further and she said... "Oh just a little ways". Well a little ways to someone on a bike and a little ways to someone walking can be two very different things indeed! I went around the next curve and saw no end insight. I just stopped in the middle of the oven baking road and looked at Anita and said.... "That's it. I'm done! no pony or bird is worth this torture!" at which point about 20 mosquitoes landed on each bare leg and began feasting. If I could have run I would have! Eventually I was able to drag myself back all the while keeping Anita in laughter with my comments about sweating and heat and how we were all going to die out there in the wilderness. Happily I Did survive it all and we were able to go look for the ponies elsewhere having never seen one on this trail and no birds either except one dove and one cowbird! Well, it's cooler today and we are off adventuring! Have a wonderful, mosquito free day everyone! :)
