Clinton Tunnel

The Clinton tunnel is part of the defunct Central Massachusetts Railroad which was active from the 1870's until the 1980's. The construction of the Wachusett Reservoir in 1897 necessitated a new right of way through the area, which resulted in a huge trestle bridge with a 1110 foot tunnel at its landing. After the section of the line that used the tunnel was abandoned in 1959 the trestle was demolished and the tracks were removed. The right of way remains largely unobstructed to this day.
