Leyland Olympian - Alexander RH - E131 DRS - Driver's Cab
Now here's more the sort of cab-shot I try to get wherever possible. Albeit wishing for far from the first time that I had a wider angle lens!
No, I wasn't tearing along at 80mph here either, for some reason the speedo was having a bit of a fit at the time and was convinced we were however. While I reckon 131 might actually be able to get to 80 given a long enough road, don't think it would do so in neutral...and I'd be rather more concentrating on where I was going than taking photos! Know there was a ground fault somewhere in the nearside rear corner causing issues for the tail lights, so if it's fed from an electronic pickup on the gearbox I guess these things could be related. Alternatively it might just need someone to give the instrument panel a firm thump in the right place...Finding gremlins in a car is bad enough...Hunting the suckers in a bus must be all manner of fun...I'll get my multimeter shall I?
131 is definitely one of my favourites of the collection up at Alford. I've always liked these Olympians, having grown up with them I guess. They look like a bus, they smell like a bus, they feel like a bus, and sound like a bus - in the case of Olympians like this with the Cummins L10 engine in particular have a hugely satisfying thunderous exhaust note.
Goes well this one too!
