DAVE HOLLAND: JAZZ ARTIS- IN-RESIDENCE

 

Renowned jazz bassist, composer and recording artist Dave Holland is the Department of Music’s 2015 Jazz Artist-in-Residence.

 

During his residency, he will deliver masterclasses on jazz bass and composition, direct an open rehearsal with the York University Jazz Orchestra and coach small jazz ensembles.

 

This jazz session offers a unique opportunity to hear Holland in performance with faculty members in the Department of Music's jazz program..

 

Dave Holland has been at the forefront of jazz for almost five decades. He performed and recorded extensively with Miles Davis and a host of other jazz greats including Chick Corea, Anthony Braxton, Herbie Hancock and vocalist Betty Carter.

 

Holland headlines numerous award-winning ensembles, including two-time Grammy winner, the Dave Holland Big Band; the Dave Holland Quintet; the quartet Prism; and the Overtone quartet.

 

David Holland's residency is made possible by the Oscar Peterson endowment at York University, which also funds the Oscar Peterson Scholarship in Jazz Performance, a prestigious annual entrance scholarship that provides $40,000 over four years to an first-year music student.
